East Grand Rapids is located on beautiful Reeds Lake, and many of the town's recreation areas are located near the lake. East Grand Rapids
High School's lacrosse field, football field and tennis courts are located a short distance away.
The popular Reeds Lake Trail circles the perimeter of the lake, and boaters flock to Collins Park to launch their watercraft on to
Reeds Lake during the summer.
East Grand Rapids Parks
John Collins Park
is on the western shore of Reeds Lake is great place to relax, read a book, or have a picnic. The park has a terrific view of Reeds Lake and features a boat launch for recreational boats and a dock for rowing crew teams. During the summer, there is free entertainment and music at John Collins Park.
Manhattan Recreation Area
is a large park with two small ball diamonds, two baseball fields,
tennis courts, volleyball courts and a soccer field. A playground is located at the western side of the
park near a shelter and picnic area. The park has trails for hiking. Parking lots for Manhattan Recreation Area
are accessible from Manhattan Road and Morningside Road.
is located adjacent to Hodenpyl Woods Trail. The parking lot for the baseball diamond
is located off Reeds Lake Road.
East Grand Rapids Trails
The Reeds Lake Trail
is a popular pedestrian route in East Grand Rapids. It consists of paved trails and sidewalks around the perimeter of Reeds Lake. The trail is a walking and jogging route and is used throughout the year. The trail connects to the
East Beltline Trail
which has paved paths on outer edges of the divided four-lane road.
Manhattan Recreation Area's hiking trail system
features winding trails over varied terrain and
through a wooded area. Parts of the trail are narrow, and you may need to duck under branches in a few spots if you are
Hodenpyl Woods Trail
is a hiking trail that is a little over a mile long. The parking lot for the trail
is also used for Remington Field.
On Wealthy Street, there are bike lanes
that border the road, starting at Lovett and going beyond the hospital.
Kayaking and Sailing
Reeds Lake is a popular place for rowing crew competitions. Sailboats, kayaks, and canoes can
launched from Collins Park on to Reed Lake. The lake is very scenic during the fall when the leaves change colors.
About East Grand Rapids
is the best known part of East Grand Rapids. The shopping district along Wealthy Street
features clothing boutiques, beauty salons, coffee shops, and unique eateries.
Breton Village Shopping Center
on the corner of Breton Avenue and Burton Street is also a shopping destination
in East Grand Rapids. Other large shopping malls are located southeast of East Grand Rapids on 28th Street at the East Beltline.
East Grand Rapids' residential neighborhoods feature some of the best architecture in the Grand Rapids area. Beautiful, historic
houses line several streets, including houses that were once home to President Gerald Ford at various points during his life.
