Marshall, Michigan Parks, Trails, Historic Locations & More





Marshall is a city full of history and features several unique museums, like the American Museum of Magic, Honolulu House Museum, and the Grand Army of the Republic Historical Society. The city also has many beautiful houses that date back to the mid-1800s, and visitors can tour several of the historic homes as part of the Marshall Historic Home Tour, an annual event held over the weekend following Labor Day. The worthwhile event attracts visitors from all over and features an art fair, antiques and entertainment.

William D. Boyce, the founder of the Boy Scouts of America, owned a summer house in Marshall, and outdoor fun can be found at several public parks in the city. Marshall also has a nature trail, the Marshall Riverwalk, that follows the route of the Kalamazoo River.

Marshall Riverwalk

Running from Kalamazoo Avenue to Stuart's Landing, the Marshall Riverwalk is a pedestrian trail that follows the route of the Kalamazoo River. The walking trail is approximately three-quarters of a mile long, and parking for the trail is located at the end of Pearl Street and at Stuart's Landing.

Marshall Historical Walking Route

Using sidewalks along several Marshall downtown area streets, you can see many historic locations and houses. Historical markers at over 15 locations provide details about significant spots, including National House Inn, Schuler's, and many others. Marshall has a beautiful downtown, and you can visit many local shops also along the walking route.

Marshall Parks

Marshall's most picturesque park, Brooks Memorial Fountain Park, is located in the center of town. The fountain was built in 1930 by Harold Brooks and modeled after the Temple of Love in Versailles, France. Brooks Memorial Fountain often serves as a backdrop for weddings and features colored lights that illuminate the fountain at night. The park features several benches and is a relaxing spot on sunny days.

Ketchum Park is a favorite with kids who enjoy the park's large playground. The park also has two shelters for picnics.

Stuart's Landing has picnic areas and a gazebo that overlook the Kalamazoo River. The park includes a band shell for concerts and serves as a starting point for the Marshall Riverwalk.

Marshall Athletic Field is a recreation complex on Michigan Avenue. The park features baseball/softball diamonds and a football field. At the back of the park, there is a playground and several sand volleyball courts.

Carver Park is a small city park on the corner of Exchange Street and Michigan Avenue. A gentle-flowing fountain is in the center of the park and bordered benches and beautiful flowers during the summer.

More About Marshall

Marshall has a vibrant downtown with shopping and restaurants. Several antique stores are located along Michigan Avenue, and larger stores are located along Michigan Avenue near I-69. Schuler's may be the best known restaurant in Marshall and offers fine-dining experience in casual environment. Stagecoach Inn is also a popular eatery, known for its burgers.

Marshall has several historic bed and breakfasts, including the Rose Hill Inn (1860) and National House Inn (1835).
